30th Anniversary 2019

July 16, 2018
To me that seem's unbelievable. It means I have been with the wonderful family that STGG is for over 5 years. My first big challenge as group organiser was our 25th anniversary and that seem's like yesterday.

So the next challenge is how to mark 30 years. To me it is a wonderful achievement for one of founders Sam who is an amazing lady. It is also a wonderful achievement for community. How amazing are we that we have stood strong as a group for 30 years.

A lot has changed in 30 years for the Trans and LGBT communities and I would like to feature some of those changes maybe. Are we willing to talk about the times when being what we are was not such a wonderful thing and we had to hide it, or the protests and activism we had to be part of to change that.?

I will pulling on you, the group members for ideas on what we do but for now I want to say a massively huge thank you to you all for supporting each other and me.

In Memory of Carol Anne

May 16, 2016

As a writer and poet I often write pathos but very rarely do I truly feel it as I am writing. Today is different. Today I feel it, and because I feel it I want to write it. In my first year as the group organizer for STG I had the pleasure, and the stress, of organizing an event to celebrate the Silver Anniversary of our group. We had our first prom night. Like all prom nights we had our glamourous Prom Queen – Carol Anne.

The look of sheer joy when I told Carol Ann she had been chosen was a...

Swindon Says No to Discrimination

September 12, 2015

Saturday 22 August was TransSwindon's official launch night at the Mail Coach. All of us had a great time and were in high spirits. Both staff and customers had been friendly and welcoming. Earlier in the day group members had been asked why the group was needed. The following is a case in point.

This was a night that the ghastly spectre of discrimination should not have raised its ugly head. However an Incident occurred at the Brunel North Car Park. For two of our members at least it made ...

Pride 2015 and TransSwindon Launch

September 12, 2015

August has seen TransSwindon begin its role as an active group within both the LGBT community and the local community. Everyone who has spoken to or messaged me had only positive things to say.

For the first time Trans had a presence at Swindon Pride. So many people of all ages came up and talked to us about transgender issues. There is no way we can say our group is not needed.

Our own launch day was an amazing success. An emotional, exhausting, nerve-stretching, and did I say emotional day fo...

Transgender Day of Remembrance

December 12, 2014
I was honoured to be invited by Eleanor Roberts to attend a flag raising at Reading University to mark the Transgender Day of Remembrance (20 November 2014). This was always going to be something special for me.

After 20+ years I was going back to my university. In those days there was no real support for LGBT and certainly not to the extent there is now. Not only had the campus changed beyond my recognition so had the attitudes. The LGBT team of the RUSU are wonderful proactive people. To be...
